As a member of the second generation of the Gracie family, he grew up directly within the environment in which Gracie Jiu Jitsu was developed, a system that later became internationally known as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or simply BJJ. While some of his brothers gained worldwide recognition through major competitions and the rise of modern MMA, Relson Gracie is particularly associated with preserving the original orientation of Gracie Jiu Jitsu as a system of self-defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early Years Under H\u00e9lio Gracie<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Relson spent his childhood in his father\u2019s academy in Rio de Janeiro. Training was part of his daily life from a very young age.
